It came into existence as a primary school in 1940. In 1956, it became a secondary school. From the academic year 1961-1962, it progressed to become a Higher Secondary school. In 1986, following the education policy, it was upgraded to a Rajkiya Varishth Madhyamik Vidyalaya. In the academic year 2023-2024, it achieved the status of an excellent school. Throughout its existence, this school has made a distinct mark in Himachal Pradesh. The new four-story magnificent building of Rajkiya Utkrisht Varishth Madhyamik Vidyalaya, which was completed last year, houses classrooms, a large library, a spacious hall, the principal's office, staff room, subject-wise rooms, an IT lab, and toilet facilities on each floor. Additionally, there are smart rooms for each subject. The school also has a separate building for the Solan hostel.
